AAOF conducted emergency food distribution for the residents of southern Somalia during the recent drought as well as emergency health relief by setting up mobile clinics. In keeping with its goal of strengthening human capital within the population it aids, AAOF employs local health professionals, community workers and administrative staff who are all residents of Mogadishu. In addition to this, AAOF  in conjunction with teaching hospitals in Mogadishu serves as a training ground for medical and nursing students at its Towfiq Health Centre. AAOF has been providing health and nutrition education workshops through consultations with stakeholders (primarily the beneficiaries) to ensure content delivered in these workshops is culturally competent and relevant. In essence, AAOF is a paramount contributor to Somali civil society, with exceptional experience in health promotion by means of education programs and by providing free medical services to the most marginalized population in southern Somalia. Aden Abdulle Osman Foundation (AAOF) is a non-profit organization focused on building civil society, strengthening communities’ human capital, alleviating poverty through income generating initiatives, and providing much needed health care and education. AAOF was founded in 2009 and named after Somalia’s first President, Aden Abdulle Osman. AAOF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Mogadishu, Somalia. Since the start of Somalia’s civil war in 1991 and the collapse of its central government, civil unrest, waning health services and deteriorating socio-economic conditions ensued. Aden Abdulle Osman Foundation aims to reverse these adverse effects of Somalia’s decadeslong civil strife. In short, Aden Abdulle Foundationseeks to provide a meaningful contribution for a more productive and healthy community in southern Somalia. Since its establishment, AAOF has been addressing the health needs of Mogadishu’s poorest residents, those living in Yaqshid district.  The Towfiq Health Centre treats approximately 25, 000 patients a year since it opened in 2012.
